The Kingdom of God in Surrey

On Wednesday 14th October, we were lucky to be visited by the Very Revd. Victor Stock, Dean of Guildford Cathedral, to talk to us about signs of the Kingdom of God in Surrey.

Victor Stock spoke of his aim to make the Cathedral accessible to everyone through creative events such as holding fairs in the nave and the recent flower gala. He highlighted the signs of grace that are seen 'if you welcome people, especially those who do not expect to be welcomed.' This poses a challenge for us in our churches, are they accessible to everyone? Are there people who do not expect to find a welcome in the churches in our deanery and if so, how can we welcome those people?

He also spoke about the importance of bridging differences between us as we work and worship together. Victor shared powerful examples of the ways in which important relationships have developed between churches and church leaders who think and worship in very different ways. The Church of England is a broad church. What more can we do in the Deanery to strengthen the relationships between our churches?

If you want hear more from Victor Stock you can find a selection of his sermons here.

Finally, don't forget to let Diana know if you will be attending our Deanery Vision Day on Saturday 21st November at Okewood Hill from 9.30am - 2.30pm. A valuable chance to meet together and focus on our vision for Dorking Deanery.
